A philological study on poisoning and side effects of Trichosanthis Radix(天花粉)

Abstract

|
Trichosanthis Radix is in use in Korean medicine. The Korean medical doctors use Trichosanthis Radix for clearing away heat(淸熱), promoting the subsidence of swelling(消腫), etc. We investigated toxicity, poisoning symptoms, side effects, poisoning treatment and prevention against poisoning of Trichosanthis Radix. The results were summarized as follows： 1. The main ingredients of poisoning are trichosanthin, etc. The ingredients of poisoning from Trichosanthis Radix mainly can rarely cause nausea, vomitting, etc and cause hypersensitive reaction. 2. The Korean medical doctors should meet symptoms as patients call for attention by the representative methods of poisoning treatment in the Korean medicine. 3. The representative methods in poisoning treatments in the western medicine are promotion of vomiting, washing out the stomach, causing diarrhea, supplies of grape sugar, inducing diuresis. And the medical doctors should meet symptoms as patients call for attention. 4. In order to prevent against poisoning of Trichosanthis Radix, the patients should keep usage, dosage and notes.
